The 2013 Spark is Chevrolet’s latest entry into the American sub-compact car market with this 4-passenger, 5-door mini hatchback. For a small car, the Spark seems quite generous with both front leg room and head clearance to accommodate taller drivers. Interior space measures 86.3 cubic feet and the rear 60/40 split fold down seat configuration leaves plenty of cargo storing options.
Measuring just 144.7″ long and 62.9″ wide, the Spark is touted as the ideal city-driving car — efficient, maneuverable, easy to park and stingy on gas, boasting 32 mpg in city driving when equipped with the manual transmission. Three models are available, the LS,1LT and 2LT, all featuring a 1.2L Ecotec 4-cylider engine with variable timing and a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. A 4-speed automatic transmission comes as an option. The power plant is rated at 85 hp and 82 ft/lbs of torque. Other standard equipment includes A/C, power windows, OnStar, rear wiper, power steering, outside temperature indicator and 15″ alloy wheels.
Standard safety features include 10 airbags, traction control, brake assist and electronic stability control. 1LT and 2LT models both include a 7″ (diagonal) color touch screen ‘infotainment’ system called MyLink with audio controls on the steering wheel. Also added to the two upgraded versions are power locks, remote key-less entry, anti-theft system and power mirrors. The 2LT versions include heated leatherette seats, fog lights and a leather-covered steering wheel. All models carry a 5-year, 100,000 mile warranty on the drivetrain assembly.
