2012 Chevrolet Sonic – Futuristic But Makes Driving Fun

The first thing that you notice about the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is its futuristic body, especially the front grille and headlamps. Decades ago, this is the type of car many people imagined  they would be driving in upcoming years. It’s fresh, sporty and a hatchback; that’s a lot to get excited about!

The 2012 Sonic offers enough legroom for a 6-foot passenger, but it’s small enough to squeeze into impossible parking spaces. The cabin is handsome, and controls are thoughtfully placed so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to find them.

The base LS gives you 15-inch wheels, a trip computer, auxiliary audio and a pretty impressive sound system while the LT adds on a remote starter system, iPod/USB audio interface and free power accessories. If you want all the extras, the LTZ trim gives you 17-iinch alloy wheels, heated front seats and fog lamps. A sunroof is available as an option.

The 1.8-liter inline-4 returns 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. Don’t let that unbelievable fuel economy fool you though, the 2012 Sonic has plenty of passing power. It delivers 135 pound-feet of torque and 138 horsepower! There is also a turbocharged option on LT and LTZ models that boasts 148 pound-feet of torque and 138 horsepower. Zero to 60 mph in only 8.8 seconds is pretty fantastic!

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic as a “Top Safety Pick” and it received the highest possible score for roof-strength, side-impact and frontal-offset crash tests. Just as it offers plenty of acceleration, it can brake just as efficiently, averaging 123 feet to stop from 60 mph. It is peppy, responsive, safe and more composed than most would expect from a subcompact.
